Honours List Criteria

(1) President’s List

The President’s List is published at the end of an academic year of MBBS study or at the end of a trimester for Foundation and other Undergraduate academic programmes to honour students who have excelled academically and having met the following criteria for that trimester/MBBS Examination :-

 

(a)

Attempted the minimum credit hours* (as listed below) and achieved a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.8500 and above;

 

 

Long Trimester

Short Trimester

Full-time Candidates

A minimum of 12 credit hours*

A minimum of 6 credit hours*

Part-time, Evening or Weekend Candidates

A minimum of 9 credit hours*

A minimum of 6 credit hours*

*excluding credit hours of courses which are attended as audit course

 

 

OR

 

Had passed either Professional MBBS Examination (Year 1, Year 3and Year 5) or Continuous Assessment (Year 2 and Year 4) and achieved a GPA of 3.8500 and above;

 

AND

(b)

No barred or repeat courses;

(before June 2022 Trimester)

 

OR

 

No barred courses;

(June 2022 Trimester onwards)

 

AND

(c)

No grade ‘C’ and below;

 

AND

(d)

Not placed under Dean’s List concurrently;

 

AND

(e)

Not in breach of the University’s rules and regulations


(2) Dean’s List

The Dean’s List is published at the end of an academic year of MBBS study or at the end of a trimester for Foundation and other Undergraduate academic programmes to honour students who have excelled academically and having met the following criteria for that trimester/MBBS Examination :-

(a)

Attempted the minimum credit hours* (as listed below) and achieved a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.6000 and above;

 

 

Long Trimester

Short Trimester

Full-time Candidates

A minimum of 12 credit hours*

A minimum of 6 credit hours*

Part-time, Evening or Weekend Candidates

A minimum of 9 credit hours*

A minimum of 6 credit hours*

*excluding credit hours of courses which are attended as audit course

 

 

OR

 

Had passed either Professional MBBS Examination (Year 1, Year 3and Year 5) or Continuous Assessment (Year 2 and Year 4) and achieved a GPA of 3.6000 and above;

 

AND

(b)

No barred or repeat courses;

(before June 2022 Trimester)

 

OR

 

No barred courses;

(June 2022 Trimester onwards)

 

AND

(c)

No grade ‘C’ and below;

 

AND

(d)

Not placed under President’s List concurrently;

 

AND

(e)

Not in breach of the University’s rules and regulations


(3)  Academic Improvement List

The Academic Improvement List is published at the end of an academic year of MBBS study or at the end of a trimester for Foundation and other Undergraduate academic programmes to recognise and honour students who have improved markedly in their academic performance throughout a trimester (long or short) or an academic year.

The award criteria are based on GPA improvement benchmarked against the immediate previous # trimester/ academic year where students:

(a)

Have attempted the minimum credit hours* (as listed below) for both current and previous# trimesters that are used for comparison;

Full-time Candidates

A minimum of 9 credit hours*

A minimum of 6 credit hours*

Part-time, Evening or Weekend Candidates

A minimum of 6 credit hours*

A minimum of 6 credit hours*

# Previous trimester is defined as the nearest past trimester with courses which have contributions to the GPA

*Excluding credit hours of courses which are attended as audit course

 

 

OR

 

Have passed either Professional MBBS Examination (Year 1, Year 3and Year 5) or Continuous Assessment (Year 2 and Year 4);

 

AND

(b)

Have achieved a GPA of 2.5000 and above for the current trimester/ MBBS Examination;

 

AND

(c)

Have attained a minimum GPA improvement of 1.0000 upon comparison of current and previous# trimester/ academic year;

 

OR

 

Have elevated their academic standing from probation status in the previous# trimester to normal status in the current trimester (not applicable to MBBS Programme);

 

AND

(d)

Are not barred from examination in the current trimester/ MBBS Examination;

 

AND

(e)

Are not placed under President’s or Dean’s List or Certificate of Merit (for MBBS Programme) concurrently in the current trimester;

 

AND

(f)

Are not in breach of the University’s rules and regulations in the current trimester

Students whose previous # trimester does not fulfill the criteria (a) above shall not be eligible for consideration of the award.

The award is granted to students within an academic level and cannot be carried forward to the next level of study, e.g. from Foundation to Undergraduate level, or to a  new programme within the same level of study after programme transfer.


(4) Book Prize

The book prize shall be awarded at the end of the programme based on the overall Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) and having met the following criteria:

         (a)    Obtained First Class Honours for students before January 2011 intake or;

         (b)    Obtained an Honours Degree with Disctinction for students of January 2011 intake onwards.

         (c)     Obtained a Degree with Disctinction for MBBS students of May 2010 intake onwards.

 

(5)  Certificate of Merit for MBBS Programme

The certificate of Merit will be awarded at the end of an academic year of MBBS study to honour students who have excelled academically and have met the following criteria for that MBBS Examination:-

        (a)    had achieved a final mark of >=70 marks in their Professional Examinations or Continuous Assessment, provided they were not in the President’s or Dean’s List AND

        (b)    that the “Certificate of Merit” shall be signed by the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences.
